NCAA Sweet Sixteen Thoughts

Hey everybody! Hope you enjoyed the craziness of March Madness last weekend! Its up there as one of my favorite sports weekends througout the year!

I think the scariest team in the tournament right now has to be the Florida Gators. The Gators have outscored Virginia and Norfolk State by a combined score of 155 to 95. They have have outscored these opponents by 60 points. That total is more than any other team in the sweet sixteen. Many would probably attribute this to them playing Norfolk State, but I'm sure Missouri is saying the same thing. Fact of the matter is, Billy Donovan has this team running on all cylinders. "Running" is a good word considering the incredibly fast tempo it preforms at.

The favorites at this point have got to be Kentucky. Nobody can seem to match up to big blue at this point. The Cats subdued and Iowa State team that made light work out of last years champs, UConn. Anthony Davis, the freshman big man, has been dominating opponents with 15.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 4.5 blocks per contest in the tournament. Not to mention the other members of Capilari's arsenal. So the question is: Who's going to match up with them?

The suprise team goes to the Ohio Bobcats. You know they busted your bracket, and if they didn't then you guessed well. Many experts were 100% sure that Michigan would be where the Bobcats are now.

Aside from the Bobcats, the "team that ruined your bracket" award goes to the Cincinatti Bearcats. Not taking away from the Big East tourney runner-ups, but weren't you just sure that Florida State was going to go to at least the elite eight? If not, the final four? If not, the final or winning it all? We'll see how this team fairs against the sleeping giant from Columbus.

Some interesting thoughts:

-Kentucky and Ohio State are in the Sweet Sixteen for their third year in a row

-How crazy (yet almost impossible) would it be to see Xavier play Cincy for the title? A lot of bad blood there.

-4 of 16 teams from this year's sweet sixteen come to us from the state of Ohio...this is the most ever from one state

-This tournament marks the first time two fifteen seeds made it to the field of 32...neither advanced to the sweet sixteen

-1 seeds are a combined 108-0 against 16 seeds, with a few different calls UNC-Asheville would have made that 107-1...crazy to imagine that now that Syracuse is in the sweet sixteen

Thanks a lot for visiting my blog. As always if there is a topic you'd like me to discuss, email me at JCGriffin13@yahoo.com or shoot me a tweet @griffaldo I'll see you next Tuesday!

  1. Very inciteful! I don't even like basketball but the article was well thought out. Congrats on following your passion, not too many people have the nuts to do that.
