College Baseball Power Rankings: Week Six

After tweaking the format of my NCAA Baseball Poll here on Griffin's Starting Lineup, we are now going to feature the top ten teams in a weekly "Power Rankings" format. Here's the power rankings for week six.

10.) Kentucky Wildcats

The Wildcats are ranked farther back in most polls, but one can't deny that this team is an offensive juggernaut. The Wildcats rank in the top 20 in the country in almost every offensive statistic, making them one of the toughest teams to play in the country. They are already making noise in the SEC, and it will be interesting to see how far this team can go.

9.) Florida Gators

The Gators are another team that's ranked a little farther back in most polls. This team earns the number nine spot in my poll this week because they deserve a spot somewhere after beating in-state foe Florida State then sweeping LSU at home. This team will always find a way to be relevant.

8.) Oregon Ducks

The Ducks have been a little inconsistent this season. When they've played well, however, Oregon has been able to compete with anybody. The Ducks' starting pitchers Jeff Gold and Matt Krook have both been terrific this season. If the the Ducks can find run support, they will be a legitimate post season threat.

7.) Virginia Cavaliers

The Cavaliers are coming off of a sweep against in-state rival Virginia Tech. The Cavaliers have been playing quality baseball and earning a lot of respect in the ACC. Freshman Connor Jones has caught a lot of attention by having an ERA of 0.88 with more than 30 innings pitched.

6.) Cal Poly Mustangs

A common theme among the teams on this list is that they all have some element of great pitching. Cal Poly's Matt Imhoff leads the NCAA currently in strikeouts with 77. Yes, you read that correctly, 77. On top of that Imhoff has a 6-1 record and a 1.05 ERA.

5.) Louisiana State Tigers

The Tigers are coming off a rough series where they were swept by the Florida Gators. The Tigers have a lethal offense, but it must remain constant. Some would refer to this club as the "Bayou Bombers," but that term is reserved for the next team.

4.) Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns

The Cajuns are certainly the best current offensive team in the state of Louisiana, slugging .511 and hitting 34 homers in 29 games. The Cajuns have certainly put together one of the best offensive teams in the country, but yet again, they are also very effective from the mound, also.

3.) Vanderbilt Commodores

The Commodores have an elite pitching staff that has averaged a 1.98 ERA, the fourth best in the NCAA. So far, the Commodores have been effective in SEC play and are only one game back in the standings.

2.) Florida State Seminoles

The Seminoles have been dominant in ACC play and haven't lost a series yet. Everybody has talked about Jameis Winston, but FSU's offense should be the topic, scoring a NCAA tenth-best 215 runs so far.

1.) South Carolina Gamecocks

The Gamecocks have appeared to be the most complete team in the country. Chad Holbrook has struck a perfect balance between youth and veterans and powerful offense with stingy defense. The Gamecocks travel to Arkansas to begin the SEC featured series this weekend.
