SEC+3: National Championship Pick
Here we have it, folks. Here's our pick for the biggest game of the College Football Season:
Godsey: Well, we are finally down to the best two teams in the nation. I have to admit, this game doesn't feature the two teams that I thought would be here. Week in, and week out, I have doubted Clemson to pull out another win. Each of those weeks, they have proven me wrong. The win over Oklahoma was great, and the way they won it was even better. Deshaun Watson once again proved that an argument could be made that he is in fact the best player in the country. I had a discussion with a friend that what Watson has done this year is more remarkable than what Alabama running back Derrick Henry has accomplished. Watson is only the second player in FBS history to throw for over 3,500 yards and rushed for 1,000. If ever there was reason to have two Heisman Trophy winners, this would be the time. Alabama beat Michigan State like I though they would, but I didn't expect the thumping they gave them. In my opinion, putting up 38 points on the Spartan defense is something I don't think anyone expected. The Alabama defense holding the Spartans to zero points and only one trip to the red zone is what stands out to me. I will be very surprised if Alabama shuts down the Clemson offense completely, but I do think they will have more success than the opposing defense. The Tide have proven that they are excellent in every category of the game. I said earlier that Clemson has proven me wrong all season, but this week I'm right. I'll take Alabama by four.
The Pick: Alabama 31 Clemson 27
Griff: It's been a great year for both of these teams, and both teams have featured the best players in the country. My prediction is simple: I think Clemson will keep this game close in the first half, but they're going to have trouble stopping the large dose of Derrick Henry that they'll receive. If Clemson can stop Henry, they'll limit Alabama's opportunities in the passing game. I don't think they'll be able to do this, and I'm picking Alabama to win it all this season.
The Pick: Alabama 37 Clemson 27
