Here's our conference championship week picks:
(8) Colorado vs. (4) Washington
Godsey: Washington, one of the teams that lost in Upset-Saturday a couple of weeks ago, has rebounded nicely and is poised to finish their run at the playoffs. Despite the impressive winning streak that Colorado has been on, I think the magic has run its course and that streak will end tonight.
The Pick: Washington 31 Colorado 28
Griff: Washington has too much skill and talent for Colorado.
The Pick: Washington 28 Colorado 14
(10) Oklahoma State vs. (9) Oklahoma
Godsey: This is a tough game to call. Let’s face it, the quarterback position is the capstone of a team and how well that team performs is directly effected by how good the quarterback is. So when comparing these QBs, both can put up numbers fast. Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield has 10 more touchdowns, but OK State QB Mason Rudolph has half the interceptions. Both teams are similar in most stats but the Sooners have the edge in rushing. I feel that the team that can run the ball will eventually control the game so I’m going with the Sooners.
The Pick: Oklahoma 38 Oklahoma State 31
Griff: Baker Mayfield and Dede Westbrook will be too much for the Pokes in a wild west shootout.
The Pick: Oklahoma 31 Oklahoma State 28
(1) Alabama vs. (15) Florida
Godsey: Here in Alabama there has been talk of resting key players this week. The Tide could probably lose this game and still make it in the playoffs. But that’s not the Nick Saban way. The Gators bring a good defense to Atlanta but the Crimson Tide have lead the FBS in defensive efficiency since 2005. In their last five games, they have allowed 32 points. Three of those games were against three top 15 teams! I’m not an Alabama fan so I’m not saying anything with bias. I can’t say exactly what it is, but Alabama will beat something out of Florida.
The Pick: Alabama 41 Florida 20
Griff: Alabama might have the best team the SEC has seen in quite some time. I've never seen a better defense. Jalen Hurts plays smart again and gets the job done in what I believe will be Lane Kiffin's last game as OC for the Crimson Tide.
The Pick: Alabama 38 Florida 10
(3) Clemson vs. (23) Virginia Tech
Godsey: Virginia Tech has had an up and down season while Clemson fans have bitten a lot of fingernails. Clemson clearly leads the Hokies in almost every critical statistic, but VT did beat Pitt. I don’t think that will save them though and the Tigers will be in the playoffs for the second year in a row.
The Pick: Clemson 37 Virginia Tech 24
Griff: Clemson is playing its best football of the year right now. I can't pick against the Tigers.
The Pick: Clemson 45 Virginia Tech 30
(6) Wisconsin vs. (7) Penn State
Godsey: This is the weirdest set of circumstances I think I’ve ever seen. The two teams playing for their conference championship are sitting behind the other teams from their conference. One could say that the best two teams in the Big 10 aren’t playing for the championship. Who would have thought we would see Penn State in this game though. They have turned into a good team and Wisconsin is as tough as nails so I expect a good game. This Badger defense is really good and its so hard to move the ball on them.
The Pick: Wisconsin 28 Penn State 20
Griff: Penn State makes the next CFB Playoff Committee meeting very awkward in a low-scoring affair.
The Pick: Penn State 10 Wisconsin 7
