Out with the Old, In with the New?

Oklahoma City vs. San Antonio

So a lot of people are writing the Spurs off in the series. I’ve heard a lot of people call the Spurs “old.” They are in fact older than the Thunder. The average age of the starting line-up for the Spurs is 28 years old. The Thunder’s starting line-up age is 24.6 years old. That’s not as startling of a number as I thought I would find.

Experience, however, is a different story. The Thunder’s starting line-up has a combined 22 years of NBA experience. The Spurs’ starting line-up has a combined 35 years of NBA experience. That’s 13 years of experience folks.

The numbers get better.

If you take the championships won by each starting line up, the Spurs have 5 where the Thunder only have 1. That 1 is held by Kendrick Perkins, who won with 2007-2008 Boston Celtics.

You might say the Thunder have a “high-flying” offense that can out score the Spurs. The Thunder are 3rd in the NBA in points per game with 103.1 points scored per game. The Spurs are 2nd in the NBA in points per game with 103.7 points scored per game. The Spurs do not lack offense, as commonly believed by many people. These two teams are pretty evenly matched, and I think this is going to be one of, if not the best series in the play-offs this year. We’ll find out how evenly they are matched Sunday in Game 1.
