Previewing the Big Baseball Week for South Carolina Colleges

The college baseball season has entered its third week, as we kick off the month of March. This week's schedule presents us with a lot of in-state match-ups, including a couple rivalry series that take place this weekend. Here's a preview of this week's in-state games:

Tuesday, March 1

Wofford vs. Clemson
4:00 at Doug Kingsmore Stadium

The Wofford Terriers remain undefeated on the diamond this season and will try to keep it that way by beating Clemson Tuesday. The Terriers swept the field in the Upstate/Wofford Tournament that they hosted this past weekend and are 1-0 against Power Five conference teams so far in 2016, beating Kentucky 5-4 in their opening game.

Clemson's coming fresh off a sweep of James Madison this weekend. The Tigers' pitching staff hasn't allowed opponents to score more than two runs in their last four games.

SC Upstate vs. Furman
5:00 at Latham Stadium

Furman rolls into this game winning their last four, including a series' sweep over Dayton this past weekend. SC Upstate is on a two-game winning streak and has outscored their opponents 17-4 in those two games. Upstate sits in the second-spot of the Atlantic Sun standings with a 5-2 record.

(13) South Carolina vs. The Citadel
7:00 at Joe Riley Park

The Gamecocks have moved up two spots in the latest D1Baseball.com Top 25, after completing the sweep of Penn State last weekend. The Citadel is also coming off of a three-game sweep against Siena over the weekend. The Bulldogs will be looking for their sixth-win of the season, and South Carolina will be looking for win number nine. Adam Hill will make his second career start for South Carolina Tuesday, after striking out 11 batters against Appalachian State last week.

Wednesday, March 2

Wofford vs. SC Upstate
4:00 at Harley Park

The Terriers and Spartans will meet on the diamond for the second time this season. Wofford won the first game, 6-3.

(18) Coastal Carolina vs. College of Charleston
5:00 at Patriots' Point

The Chanticleers are coming off of a clutch-performance on Monday, when they were able to score runs in the bottom of the ninth and tenth innings to defeat Ohio State 3-2. College of Charleston is looking for a quality win after losing a series to (15) Florida State. The Cougars defeated the Seminoles on Friday night before surrendering losses in both Saturday and Sunday's games.

Friday, March 4

College of Charleston vs. The Citadel
6:00 at Joe Riley Park

In a series that will be the Battle of Chucktown, the Bulldogs and Cougars will throw their best starting pitching in game one. Both school's Friday night starters have won decisions against ACC Schools, and this should be a fantastic match-up.

Clemson vs. (13) South Carolina
7:00 at Founders Park

Game one between Clemson and South Carolina kicks off one of the best early-season series in all of college baseball year-in and year-out. The bitter rivalry is sometimes a preview of postseason action in the NCAA Tournament. As listed above, game one will be played at Founders Park in Columbia.

Saturday, March 5

Clemson vs. (13) South Carolina
2:00 at Fluor Field at the West End

Game two of South Carolina's biggest college baseball rivalry will be played in Greenville at Fluor Field, which is home to the Greenville Drive, a Boston Red Sox affiliate. South Carolina is listed as the home team.

The Citadel vs. College of Charleston
2:30 at Patriots' Point

Like the Clemson/South Carolina series, the Cougars and Bulldogs will be moving their games back-and-forth throughout the three-game series. Saturday's game two will be played at Patriots' Point.

Sunday, March 6

College of Charleston vs. The Citadel
1:00 at Joe Riley Park

The series' finale between College of Charleston and The Citadel will be played at Joe Riley Park.

(13) South Carolina vs. Clemson
2:00 at Doug Kingsmore Stadium

In what's usually a fantastic finish to this rivalry series, game three will be played at Doug Kingsmore Stadium in Clemson. The Tigers are 5-1 this season at home going into Tuesday's game against Wofford.
